Limited Factory-Certified Heritage Upgrade

For Original microZOTL 2.0 (MZ2) Owners

From the beginning, the microZOTL platform has been defined by David Berning's original circuit topology — a design that has proven remarkably durable, reliable, and musically engaging over decades of use.

As part of a new factory recertification project, we have the opportunity to offer a limited, factory-certified heritage upgrade for original microZOTL 2.0 (MZ2) owners. This upgrade incorporates reference-grade ceramic audio boards with Japanese Amtrans capacitors, originally manufactured for our former flagship preamplifier and now recertified to current LTA standards for use in the MZ2. We believe that these should be enjoyed and are pleased to be able to put what was recently some of our highest level components back in circulation.  

Important note on board sourcing: These ceramic boards were carefully removed from units during our MicroZOTL Preamplifier Level 3 upgrade program. Each board has been thoroughly inspected, tested, and validated to meet our current performance standards. Because the MZ2 features a clear acrylic top, you'll be able to see that these boards represent several years of incremental improvement and show the progress of LTA since the launch of the original MZ2. Variations may include different component selections, layout refinements, 6SN7 / 12SN7 heater adjustment strategies, and PCB masking coloration or labeling — visible evidence of our ongoing evolution while maintaining the core Berning circuit design. Do to the limited nature of this supply, we can not accommodate specific requests for a particular board design.

When installed and paired with any of our linear power supplies, this upgrade delivers a noticeably quieter background, improved low-level detail, and a more dimensional, engaging presentation — bringing the performance of the MZ2 closer to our former reference-level designs.

What makes this different:

• This refresh includes updating wiring, connectors, and other necessary components for compatibility and long-term enjoyability. It does not include chassis updates for adding inputs, remote control, or improving cosmetic condition.

• The upgraded MZ2s are factory-recertified, fully inspected, tested, and qualified to current LTA standards.

• The circuit boards were used in the MicroZOTL Level 2 Preamplifier– Not equivalent to the MicroZOTL Level 3 Upgrade

• Each upgraded unit includes a 5-year LTA factory warranty on the upgraded electronics (excluding tubes), regardless of the original unit's age

Because this upgrade involves extensive disassembly, careful installation, testing, and re-certification in a compact chassis, it is labor-intensive and offered in very limited quantities (approximately 50 units).

This is a one-time opportunity to extend the life and performance of an original design that remains central to LTA's history. While supplies last.

How It Works

1. Place your upgrade order

2. Wait for LTA to send you a return shipping label

3. Pack your MicroZOTL securely in its original box and packaging (if you don’t have the original packaging, let us know), affix the label, and take it to your closest FedEx location.

4. When we receive your MZ2, we’ll do the upgrades and ship it back to you ASAP after testing. Please note that each upgrade takes about a full working day to complete. We are working diligently to get through our backlog.
